The Hope on Wheels Tour is the united effort of Hyundai dealers across the country to raise awareness about childhood cancer and celebrate the lives of the courageous children battling the disease. This summer, the Hope on Wheels Tour will travel to 42 children’s hospitals across the country and donate more than $2 million to support further training and research for doctors involved in childhood cancer research, making it the largest single year of donations in the organization’s history. Hyundai Hope on Wheels designates the medical professionals supported by these donations as Hyundai Scholars.

The 2010 Tour will also host Handprint Ceremonies for childhood cancer patients, both past and present, at the 42 children’s hospitals receiving donations. The symbol of the Hope on Wheels Tour is a white Hyundai Santa Fe covered with colorful handprints representing childhood cancer patients from all over the country. The Handprint Ceremony celebrates the courage of childhood cancer patients by capturing their colorful handprints on the white Santa Fe; children attending the ceremony are asked to lend a hand and place their own handprints on the car to commemorate their battle with cancer. Why handprints? Because there’s nothing more personal than a handprint – and the goal of the Hope on Wheels Tour is to share the personal triumphs of each of these children with other childhood cancer patients and their families across the country. Whether it’s completing a round of chemo, celebrating a beautiful new head of hair or receiving a clean bill of health, one childhood cancer patient’s milestone can be another’s symbol of hope.

The 10 Speaker, 440 Watt Acura ELS Sound System that comes as part of the Technology package was our top choice, but not based on technical precision and point total alone. (Other Luxury Brand systems tested were on vehicles like Jaguar, Aston Martin, Lexus, and Infiniti)

Sure clarity and tonal balance were near perfect, and timbre and tonal acuracy were strikingly authentic, and background details were tangibly vivid. Bass impact had visceral quality and dynamics were like those delivered at a live performance. Sound staging was easily the best of the bunch, with the width extending outside of the vehicle past the roof pillars, and a three-dimensional quality to the depth. Imaging was also precise.

But it had that ineffable quality that made us forget that were listening to a group of electronic components and speakers and let us simply enjoy the music. Objective analysis aside, sheer aural enjoyment is the ultimate goal of any audio system, and even after hours of listening to audio systems in cars, we wanted to keep on jamming to the ELS System.

DVD-Audio Surround was also the best of the bunch. The immerse quality of the system made us fall in love with our DVD-Audio test discs all over again.

The 2010 Toyota Tacoma

Toyota Tacoma is available in Regular Cab, Access Cab (extended cab) and Double Cab (crew cab) body styles, in either two or four wheel drive. Regular and Access Cabs come with six-foot beds; Double Cabs have the choice of a shorter five-foot bed or a standard-size six-footer. The base engine is a 2.7-liter, 159-hp inline-four mated to a five-speed manual transmission; a four-speed automatic is optional. A 236-hp 4.0-liter V6 is standard on all Double Cabs and optional on 4WD Access Cabs. The V6 is paired with a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic. The 2010 Toyota Tundra

The Scion Hako Coupe Concept was developed by Tokyo Design Division. The Hako Coupe Concept was inspired by the Scion xB and a collaboration of trends and style fused by the Japanese and American youth culture. They took the xB’s boxy shape and evolved it into something more lively and emotionally appealing. The Tokyo Design Team used the American classic car influence to help design the Hako Coupe Concept.

The Hako Coupe features a vertical windshield and high linear beltline that seamlessly wrap around the rear to provide a mysterious profile. As an example of potential personalization, the concept is equipped with a flat, panorama roof that features a random, barcode-like pattern that can be seen on the exterior and from the interior.

The rear features LED taillights that echo the shape of the headlights. The Trapazoid design also accentuates the front LED headlamps. To complete the package, the rear bumper has an integrated fog and back up light on the left and exhaust on the right.

Inside, the Hako is accented with orange and metallic detailing that exudes a modern environment with entertainment possibilities. The front and rear seats are covered with urethane and rubber-like upholstery for easy cleaning. The contemporary front bucket seats flow to the floor and incorporate a geometric design on the seatback. The seats are separated by a center console that features a large storage crevice for storing magazines, cell phones, and other small items. Two cockpit-like rear seats also share a storage crevice.

The orange driver’s seat has a gaming theme. Instrumentation and warning lights cascade from the art inspired instrument panel to the steering wheel. The shifter, located on the center console, resembles a large joystick. On the steering wheel is a simple button to start the engine and a track-ball type control for the Hako’s entertainment system located on the passenger dash. The entertainment system consists of two video monitor screens mounted on the dash for radio, video, and music capabilities. Users can upload their videos and music through a Bluetooth® connection. The front passenger controls the system using a large rollerball mounted on the center of the dash. A black seat differentiates the front passenger area.

Video monitors located on each door and on each side of the rear seating area project distorted fish-eye images from orange filtered cameras mounted beneath the A-pillars. While the vehicle is parked the driver and passenger can edit the scenes captured by the cameras to show their friends where they have been and perhaps even post the clip online for others to see.
